As someone who enjoys dining out with friends, I often found the process of discovering and reserving restaurants cumbersome. When Clipboard Inc. approached me to enhance their FindFood app, I was excited to create a solution that would make meal reservations more intuitive and socially engaging for users like myself.

Background of the Project

FindFood is designed to help users locate and book meal reservations at their preferred restaurants, connect with friends, and enjoy a seamless search, filter, and payment process from any location.

‍

The Goal

‍Increase user engagement and the number of bookings per user by improving the app's shopping experience.

‍

The Team

  • Product Manager
  • UX Designer (Myself)
  • Developers
  • QA Specialists

‍

My Contributions

  • Conducted UX research to identify user pain points.
  • Redesigned the user interface to enhance usability.
  • Developed personalized recommendation algorithms.
  • Integrated social features to facilitate friend connections.
  • Implemented strategies to reduce reservation no-show rates.

Problem Solved

‍Users reported feeling overwhelmed by the extensive restaurant choices, leading to indecision and, in some cases, abandoning the app without making reservations. Additionally, a significant number of users failed to honor their reservations, negatively impacting partner restaurants.

‍

A User's Review: I love FindFood because I know every restaurant in my town is on the platform, so I’m not going to be missing out on anything. Sometimes, however, the choice can be overwhelming… my partner and I will just scroll around and look at a ton of stuff and debate options for thirty minutes, and then it’s basically too late to go out. I’ve definitely had a couple unexpected grocery store frozen dinners because of that!

‍

Problem Statements, Pain Points, and Insights

  • User Overwhelm: The vast array of restaurant options caused decision paralysis.
  • Lack of Personalization: Users desired recommendations tailored to their preferences.
  • Social Disconnect: The app lacked features for users to coordinate with friends.
  • High No-Show Rates: Frequent reservation no-shows strained relationships with partner restaurants.

‍

  • User Feedback: Conducted surveys revealing 70% of users wanted personalized suggestions; 60% desired social features.
  • Prototype Testing: Iterative testing showed a 25% faster decision-making process with improved filters.
  • Challenges: Balancing feature richness with user interface simplicity; ensuring data privacy in social integrations.
  • Recommendations: Continuously gather user feedback to refine personalization; educate users on privacy measures to build trust.
